Week Three| Toney

MSN.com certainly didn't listen to Lupton's advice on hierarchy when designing their home page. The text of certain clickable articles changes sometime, but not nearly enough that the change itself is emphasized. Instead, the website is clustered with a typical, blue colored sans serif font. This achieves the modern look that all news websites want, but also makes the site come off as boring. The reader focuses on bigger, brighter advertisements than the site's news stories. Perhaps this is what the web designer intended, but then again, a page won't get many hits if its design looks robotic.

  1. I completely agree. If somebody was to ask me what the MSN webpage had on it today, I would probably say that it was something about a doctor and car insurance. The singular blue color is not helpful at all, as it is easy to get lost in the multitude of different headlines and links.

  2. Agreed. Everything is just way too tiny and tight, nothing stands out and boring is definitely the word for this website. I feel like a lot of websites get caught up in this generic set up which of course makes them easily forgettable.
