Via Spiga

This weekend I was at the mall and tried on a pair of boots by the designer Via Spiga. My eye immediately noticed something a bit strange about the label. While I understand why the letters have such a wide set width because of the symmetry between the letters V and A, I do not think that the it looks appealing because of the lack of fluidity throughout the entire two words combined. The second word does not look right because it has a cluster of letters with bowls that create a different shape than the letters in the first word. So my attention is drawn to the first word VIA and the A of the word SPIGA because these letters appear to have a larger set width at first glance. If the letters S P I G of SPIGA flowed better with the symmetry and connectedness of the letters V I and A, I feel this type would work much better. Also, the set width of a letter should usually consist of a sliver of space to protect it from other letters, according to our text. Lack of this needed space is especially relevant in the word VIA which almost makes the letters look like a shape rather than the name of a designer if one was not familiar with this specific type of shoe.
