Week 1 - Spivack

Queen Victoria of England was a symbol of elegance, grace, and tradition, therefore the font stating her name should reflect that. A sans-serif font is not the appropriate choice for a queen's name. Serif fonts are much more formal and classic. They could perhaps switch the font in the word "the" with the font in her name. Also, Young Victoria's name should not be in all capital letters. The execution of font in this movie poster for "The Young Victoria" does not at all reflect the content of the movie.

  1. I definitely agree with you. The sans-serif font looks modern, clean, and simple. A big reason why I don't think it's a good font is because it doesn't reflect the movie. The movie takes place in the 1800's, so they should've gone with a more traditional serif typeface. I think it was a good idea that they didn't use a script or cursive type because it would've probably been hard to read. The fact that they did put "The" in a script/cursive type tells me that they still wanted to reflect elegance, so personally I don't think that it was too bad of a decision. But I do think that the two font types contrast way to much.

  2. I agree with your post. Although the movie cover is trying to emphasize the words "Young Victoria," I think they could have found a smoother font, maybe a script, that would still be able to emphasize her name.
