No wonder Kia Motors doesn't sell very well. The logo, at least in my opinion, is repulsive to car-buyers. The red font in capital letters does stand out but that's just about the only positive of the logo. The font is blocky and unappealing and the "I" can easily be mistaken for a lower case "l" without closer examination. The uncrossed "A" appears more like a Greek letter from a fraternity or sorority than the "A" it is meant to be. Meanwhile, the letters are housed in an oval that looks more like a football than anything else and distracts me from the fact that Kia is a car company over anything else.
I agree. They chose a sans-serif font to reflect a more modern, clean, and futuristic car company. But as a car company, the company should have used a font that is bolder, stronger, and stable- possibly a typeface with slab serifs or square serifs. I also find it a little distracting that the "A" in the logo and the A in the word mark are different. If the company wanted to use the open "A" as their signiture, they should consider making it a part of their word mark as well.
ReplyDeleteI agree. The logo is very boring. The red catches your eye but then the structure of the letters essentially loses the power that is associated with the color red. They could have definitely chosen a better logo for their brand. The typeface does in fact make the "A" look very awkward and out of place. Overall its a bad logo.
