This 3 page spread about the Ford Escape Hybrid utilizes various grid design techniques and overall, works very well for the piece. First and foremost, there are the three columns of type that give the text easy readability and a consistent and well organized schema. Another technique displayed is the positioning of the pictures. The first picture, positioned above the text, works nicely by drawing the reader toward the text while not interfering with it. The other picture is in the upper right hand corner, once again not interfering with the text and also allowing the text to run with six fluid, uninterrupted columns. The last highlight of this design is the placement of the deckhead. It is actually in the middle of the the first three columns of text. Although a little odd, I think it works nicely and gives the design a little originality and much needed spunk. Concluding, Ford may not be doing well in car sales but you can't place the blame on their ads grid design.
