Del Castillo | Week 12

I went to the Philippines last summer so I decided to do a travel magazine with a feature on some of the natural wonders of the island of Bohol. I wanted to get across how amazing this little island nation is so I put similar pictures on the cover and first spread because the chocolate hills are something to behold. On the second spread, I wanted there to be sufficient space for the information but also not bog the reader down with a lot of words. I decided to put the majority of the type on the left side and then put a bigger picture on the right side with a caption and the side bar on the bottom so there were more visuals to look at. I also made the background a shade of green because I felt it unified the the second spread with the rest of the magazine. I put a picture of a beach and made the side bar about tarsiers because I wanted to show other natural sights to see on the island.

I used Cooper STD for the magazine title and headers on the front because it gave me a feeling of fun. The headline is is in Casalon Pro because I thought it gave it a nice nostalgic feel. The body text, bylines, deck head, and folios are in Baskerville because it gave unity throughout the magazine and it is easy to read. The caption and side bar are in gill sans because it is a san serif and contrasted the serif baskerville nicely and stood out.
