I think the New York Times' web site is a prime example of poor readability. While it adheres to some basic Lupton-like grid guidelines, the grids themselves are not really proportional, and throws a viewer off. The site has small text and even smaller links, which made me squint to read them on a computer. The advertisements are eye grabbing, but for a major publication like the NYT, shouldn't the headlines be just as eye grabbing? Maybe I'm an idealist, but I'd like the NYT web site to bring color to its news. Instead, it looks like a plain jane newspaper with stacked titles and no real visual allure.
This website is very unusable. It's all very cluttered and there's way too much information coming at you. They use way too many small containers and it just overwhelms the eyes.
