I am a dancer and dancing is what I love to do therefore I decided to do my magazine on Alvin Ailey Dance Company and on the creator Alvin Ailey. The story I found was a feature celebrating 50 years of success on the dance company. I wanted my cover to be a very striking dance picture featuring two dancers. I found through google images, an image of two company members interacting in a very striking and eye-popping pose. The picture had a black back drop with the two dancers wearing white, so it was very appealing to the eye. For my spread I wanted a picture that featured the creator Alvin Ailey. I found a great black and white picture that went along with the black and white cover. The picture encompassed Alvin Ailey looking straight ahead, making extreme eye contact with the reader. This picture was strong, powerful and appealing, everything I wanted for my feature picture. I decided to keep with the black and white theme on the next page and title the feature "THe Spark." I came up with this title because Alvin Ailey was the spark who created the path towards 50 years of dance genius. He was the spark that began this amazing dance company. Therefore the title "the spark" was perfect. The next two pages have a red and black theme. I took a picture of two dancers once again interacting in an eye popping pose. I took the colors from the picture and used that for my sidebar color scheme. Overall my spread was simplistic and elegant and everything I wanted. Throughout my spread I used Caslon.
