Ellen Lupton discusses the use of grids in graphics. One of the main examples that she discusses, however, is the use of grids in magazine and newspaper type, which for the most part is only used by those editors and such who represent a small portion of the population. One intriguing example that is universally used is the grids used in multiplication tables. These help school-age children learn multiplication with numbers 12 and under. They visually aid the child and make it so that they cannot become confused when learning this fundamental information.
