Spivack Magazine Week 12

For my magazine project I used a question and answer article on Zooey Deschanel. The article was about healthy eating while on the road. I used the first picture as the inspiration for my title "Take a Ride with Zooey". I used the two "O's" in Zooey to create a simple bicycle outline to show being active. The intro paragraph is deliberately shaped as a path to both tell a story and lead the eye down the page. I decided to keep the color scheme of blue and green throughout the entire article to keep unity. The two colors I used were taken directly from the first picture with the help of the eye dropper tool. I photoshopped most of the pictures that I used so that they would coordinate with the theme. For my sidebar, I chose a recipe from one of Zooey's favorite cookbooks. In the article extras she mentioned enjoying vegan chocolate cake from this cookbook, so I thought that it would be appropriate to share it with the readers. The cover of my magazine is modelled off of fashion magazines such as Cosmopolitan, Glamor etc. because that it the audience that I wanted to reach. I used blue to highlight the title and Zooey's name because it matched the article and made her iconic eyes stand out. The ad that I chose is relevant to the target market who would read this magazine. It is a cross between fashion and beauty which is what my target will be interested in when reading this magazine. The typeography that I used was legible while still interesting. I varied between serifs and sans serifs to create visual stimulation, and used bolds and books to create a visual heirarchy.

  1. Jenna - I absolutely love your color scheme for this magazine spread. The "wow" spread is just the definition of that...the image of Zooey captures the readers attention instantaneously and the trail made out of your deck-head text is extremely creative and fun. I also like how you split up the question-and-answer format with the use of different colors to emphasize question and response. Great job!
